Background of the Study

Grassroots mobilization is a critical aspect of political participation, particularly in local governments where political parties rely on community-level engagement to build support and drive voter turnout. The structure of political parties plays a significant role in determining their ability to connect with grassroots communities, organize activities, and foster political awareness (Bello & Musa, 2023). In Kaura Namoda Local Government, Zamfara State, the effectiveness of grassroots mobilization efforts is often influenced by factors such as party hierarchy, leadership dynamics, and the distribution of resources. Political parties with robust structures are better positioned to mobilize voters, address local issues, and promote inclusivity, while weak structures risk alienating potential supporters and undermining democratic participation (Garba & Sani, 2024). However, the specific mechanisms through which party structures impact grassroots mobilization in Kaura Namoda remain underexplored, necessitating a detailed investigation of their role in local political processes.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Despite the importance of grassroots mobilization in democratic governance, many political parties in Kaura Namoda Local Government struggle to establish effective structures that facilitate voter engagement and participation. Issues such as poor leadership, inadequate resource allocation, and limited grassroots representation hinder the ability of parties to mobilize communities effectively (Abubakar & Yusuf, 2024). The lack of empirical studies on how party structures influence grassroots mobilization in Kaura Namoda further complicates efforts to address these challenges. This study aims to fill this gap by examining the relationship between political party structures and grassroots mobilization in the local government.
